Cylinder Head Resurfacing

If the engine overheats or the cylinder head gasket burns out, the cylinder head may be distorted, in which case we can resurface or degrease the cylinder head to bring it back to tolerance and create a perfect seal. 

In modern engines, the cylinder head finish should be within 10 microns because most modern engines use steel laminated cylinder head gaskets called MLS gaskets, or "multi-layer gaskets". These gaskets provide a stronger body plate and aid in conduction between the block and cylinder head, which helps stabilize thermal expansion and contraction, thereby reducing stress. Since MLS gasket materials do not tolerate any defects in cylinder head surface finish, premature gasket failure can result.

In addition to head distortion, it can corrode over time, which may require degreasing. If a gasket is blown off, it may leave marks on the head surface, which may need to be skimmed off. 

We are able to resurface most gasoline heads with the valves in place, but on most diesel heads the valves protrude from the head surface and will need to be removed before resurfacing the head. Once the heads are resurfaced, we may need to resurface the valves and seats to set them back to the correct depth/height.

When rebuilding cylinder heads, we always try to remove as little material as possible to eliminate any distortion without significantly altering the compression. 

When rebuilding cylinder heads, it is important to keep in mind the make and model of the vehicle, as cylinder heads are different for different makes and models, for example, gasket head D7-I for Changan MINIVAN SC63502007/2012 is not the same as Chery QQ3 gasket head 372-1003040.
